I’ve been reaching for new heights but have to get where I’m going. Since returning from Europe last August, I’ve been trying to kick it up a notch, trying to get out of my comfort zone. But I haven’t been terribly happy with the results. I’ve gone more abstract and figurative but have moved too far from what I like best. I miss faces and eyes and expressions. Most of what I’ve painted in the last three or four months is sitting in my office and I’ve never posted it. I just painted something new “Biker Chick” and, although it’s not perfect, it’s a lot closer to what I’m striving for. I have a long way to go, however.
I’m very grateful to my extraordinary teacher and brilliant artist, Lola del Fresno. Just as I need another set of eyes for my writing, I need one for painting as well. Just like children or pets, we get to close to our work and we can’t be objective! My favorite day of the week is Sunday, the day I spend painting under her inspirational tutelage.
