I’m finally in a place where I can concentrate on ART! That’s the theory anyway. Several of my paintings, new abstract figurative, were included a group show at the Santa Monica Art Galleries and Studios this last week. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there but understand the whole show went very very well.
I woke up this morning with an urge to paint. The long and short of what I learned was don’t paint outside, even in the shade, on a warm Italian morning. I don’t mean to imply this wouldn’t have happened anywhere where it’s warm. It’s not surprising paint, especially acrylic, would dry VERY quickly. I was also inspired to do something out of my wheel-house as they say in Hollywood. The part that came out the best were the abstract figures of people. When my husband looked at it he said, “stick to people. It’s what you do best.” It’s bizarre. Even as blobs of color my people look more interesting than when I do buildings or landscape. It amazes me somehow. Although I can’t say why.
Haven’t really gotten into soaking up any art yet. Mainly been traveling and getting settled. Tomorrow is our foray into Venice! Haven’t been in over close to 20 years. VERY excited.
This is a photo taken from the lovely ancient town of Bassano de Grappa, looking out to the Dolomites.
